How it works

Clear process. Fixed prices. No surprises.

Every engagement follows the same straightforward process. Here is exactly what happens from the moment you get in touch to the moment the work is done.

The documents

Every engagement uses three documents

Before any work begins, both parties sign three short documents. This protects you and us equally.

Terms of Service
The legal framework. Signed once. Covers all future work. Available at techster.uk/terms.
Engagement Letter
A one-page plain-English summary of how we work together. Signed once per client.
Statement of Work
One per job. Defines exactly what will be delivered, at what price, and when.

First contact

You get in touch and describe what you need

Use the contact form or email hello@techster.uk. Describe what you are trying to achieve. Even if you do not know exactly what you need yet, that is fine. A conversation costs nothing.

There is no sales call, no demo, no upsell. Just a direct conversation about your situation and whether we can help.

No commitment required No calls required Email is enough

Scoping

We agree exactly what will be delivered

Once we understand what you need, we produce a Statement of Work. This is a short document that defines precisely what the deliverable is, what it does not include, and how we will both know when it is done.

This stage is important. Vague scope leads to misunderstandings. We take time here to make sure both parties are looking at the same thing before any money changes hands.

The Statement of Work is the contract for each job. If it is not written in the Statement of Work, it is not included.

Signing and payment

Both parties sign. You pay the first invoice. Work begins.

Once the Statement of Work is agreed, we send it alongside the Engagement Letter for signature. Both documents are signed before anything starts.

The first payment invoice is sent at the same time. Work begins only when that payment clears. The payment schedule depends on the size of the job:

Under £200: full payment upfront before work begins
£200 to £500: 50% upfront, 50% on delivery
Over £500: milestone payments as agreed in the Statement of Work
No work begins until the first payment has cleared. No deliverable is released until final payment has cleared. These are absolute conditions with no exceptions.

The work

We produce the agreed deliverable. You implement it.

We produce whatever was agreed in the Statement of Work: a written guide, a security audit report, a configuration plan, a training session. All delivered in writing.

We do not touch your systems. We never have access to them. Everything we produce is advice and guidance that you carry out yourself, at your own pace, in your own environment.

If something in the advice is unclear, ask. Reasonable clarification questions are included in the scope of any engagement.

We tell you what to do. You do it. We never touch your systems.
Written deliverables only No system access Clarifications included

Delivery and review

You receive the deliverable and have 5 days to review it

When the work is complete, we deliver it in writing. You have 5 business days to review it and raise any reasonable objections based on the agreed scope.

After 5 days, or when you confirm acceptance, the unit of work is complete. The final invoice is sent and the deliverable is formally yours upon payment.

5 business days to review Objections must relate to agreed scope
6

Handover

You walk away knowing what you have and how to use it

Every engagement ends with a handover. You receive a written record of what was advised, what was set up, and what you need to know to maintain it going forward.

The goal is not just to complete a job. It is to leave you more capable and more confident than when we started.

Written handover included You own the documentation No dependency on us

Ongoing

Further work, if you need it

Each engagement is self-contained. If you need more help later, we start a new Statement of Work. There are no long-term contracts, no retainer obligations, and no pressure to keep engaging.

If you want ongoing advisory support, a separate retainer arrangement can be agreed in writing. This is optional and entirely your choice.

No long-term commitment New SOW per job Optional retainer available

Common questions

What if I do not know exactly what I need?

That is fine. Get in touch and describe your situation. We will help you work out what the right unit of work is before any documents are signed.

What if the work takes longer than expected?

The Statement of Work defines a fixed deliverable at a fixed price. If something unexpected comes up that changes what is needed, we discuss it, agree a new scope in writing, and price accordingly. You never pay more than what was agreed without signing a new Statement of Work first.

What if I want to ask follow-up questions after delivery?

Reasonable clarification questions about delivered work are included. If your questions go beyond the original scope (new topics, new configuration, implementation support), that becomes a new unit of work and we will scope and price it before proceeding.

What happens if I do not pay?

Work stops until outstanding invoices are settled. No deliverable is released until payment clears. For persistent non-payment, we reserve the right to pursue the outstanding amount through UK small claims procedures.

Will you ever need access to my server?

No. We never access your systems. Everything we produce is written guidance that you implement yourself. We will never ask for your passwords, credentials, or remote access under any circumstances.

What if something goes wrong after I follow the advice?

Our advice is given in good faith based on the information available. You are responsible for what you implement on your own systems. We recommend always backing up before acting on any advice. Our full liability position is at techster.uk/terms.
